I actually properly read my flist today and I've missed it. I have been so enchanted by Tumblr's pretty pictures but it's been so nice to read some words and see how obsessed everyone seems to be with X-Men First Class, and other things like Suits. I haven't yet fallen down the Charles/Erik fic hole but oh it will happen. I've loved them since I started reading comics, and love the movie, so it's only a matter of time.

Otherwise I've been doing ... not enough. I've been back over a month and I should be really looking hard at jobs and making decisions about moving and I'm not doing that. I'm getting horrendously distracted by the internet ... where I also need to be looking for jobs. You see the problem. ;) This was inevitable, but that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

Fandom wise, well there's always Fringe. Always. Josh showed up at Comic-Con (in an Observer suit no less) and was his hyperactive, adorable, fan-boy self, so that was awesome and made me breath a huge sigh of relief. Other than that it's a lot of 'ooh pretty pictures' and hoping fandom's not going to be all 'Peter vs. Lincoln' next season. I was thinking about it before, when you cross the line into unreasonable character war, and while I don't think you have to like all fictional characters in a show/book/whatever (I certainly don't - but I do admit in Fringe I like the large majority) and you should feel free to say so on your blog/Tumblr/LJ/thing, there's a line somewhere. Direct line by line comparisons? (Peter is so awesome because he did this, but Lincoln sucks because he didn't do this, for example) Commenting on someone's happy post with comments bashing the character? I don't know. I'll know it when I see it. ;) But then, I like Peter and Lincoln a whole lot, so maybe that's the reason it irks me. *shrug*

I also spent a lot of time today pondering staged paparazzi photos, and if the recent photos of Josh and Diane were staged, or not, because they kind of looked it because they're not huge stars and seemed to get a lot of attention recently, and people do it all the time, and it's part of the game, but then they were in LA in places where there are a lot of photographers, and then Diane has endorsement deals so ... and I really need a job. There have been far too many celebrity gossip blogs recently and I don't think it can be healthy.

I did catch up on True Blood, and by that I mean I decided to hunt down the clips of Eric from this season on YouTube. I can't say I'm really missing watching the whole episodes.

Reading wise I am still trying to get through A Feast of Crows and it is not as easy going as I'd like.

I really need to do things tomorrow, and getting out of bed before 10am would be a good start, so I should sleep. ;)

Haha, oh I meant to go to bed early. This post will probably be shorter than I had planned, but I really want to get it done as its been in my head for days now.

New job is going well. Nicest building I've worked in so far. Commute is easy, it's right by the Thames, modern chairs and computers, Outlook 2007 (never been so happy to see it in my life, no Lotus Notes yay) and most importantly a free coffee machine that grinds beans. No instant, no BYO coffee. I was so happy when I saw it, and the coffee is goood. I can see my caffeine addiction growing. Because it really needed to. ;)

Job itself is not exactly exciting, but it's fine.

And I seem to have an interview for another job that I really want first thing on Monday morning, which wasn't exactly my first choice of time, but there you go. Fingers crossed.

Now, to the fangirling.

True Blood: Evil Is Going On )

I did watch the most recent Mad Men, but I don't have anything really to say about it. Good solid episode, but I guess a little bit lessened in comparison to the awesome that was last week.

Random links:

1. Fringe S2 Blooper reel!! I've been waiting for this to hit the internet for ages and oh it was as awesome as I was hoping. Anna and Josh making stupid faces! Josh cracking jokes all the time! A (sadly bleeped out) swearing montage (again mostly starring Josh and Anna). The return of Lance's "one more time." I love this cast a ridiculous amount, and I will be watching this ... a lot.

Embedded here )

2. America Is a Joke: cool NY Mag profile of Jon Stewart. <3

3. Matt Bellamy is wearing blue jeans and a checked shirt God, that's so weird for Matt. It's like ... I hate to say normal, but well, normal. ;) Him and Kate look quite cute together tbh. Eh, hating takes effort. If he's happy more power to him.

4. This got linked everywhere but if you haven't seen Joseph Gordon-Levitt singing and snarking his way through a cover of "Bad Romance" you should. Guh. Yes, you should. Guitar. Snark. And it's not actually too bad a cover, at all.

5. This is random, and I think it might be just me with these two particular fandoms in common, but this picture breaks my brain. Fandoms colliding!

Josh and Jean Todt?! )

6. Arsenal won 6-0 tonight. Yaaay. And Cesc is looking good, both on a football and a completely superficial level.

I also went and loaded some more fic to AO3 and found a cool Tony/CJ snippet that I apparently wrote in 2007 and still sort of like. A miracle. I also found my WaT fic. Oh. I am warring between, "no, you should archive all your fic except the really bad HP fic we do not name" (seriously there is a folder on my laptop called "The Fic That Must Not Be Named") and "no, that fic is bad. Bad." I think my completist tendencies are going to win out.

Phew. I think that's it.
aworldinside: (Eric)
I have a fixed laptop! It's so pretty. The whole bottom case got fixed, so it's all new looking and I have my 'J' key back!

So, with a returned laptop, I could catch up on TV.

True Blood: Fresh Blood )

Mad Men: Waldorf Stories )

Mad Men: The Suitcase )

I don't have a Mad Men icon? Got to get on that.

Links of awesome:

XKCD wedding cake! That is awesome! I don't necessarily want the wedding, but can I just get the cake at some point?

Midichlorian Rhapsody You know Weird Al's version of American Pie about The Phantom Menace (sorry if I got it in you head), this is like that, but with video, and all three movies, and to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody. So well done. <3!

I reblog the daily what blog far too often, but their links are often so good.

Random Fringe related speculation:

Peter-related, to the shock of probably no one )

Should post the fanmix tomorrow. Have the track-list sorted, just need the cover.

I have also started my mammoth Flickr catch-up (after having to renew my Pro account. Why must everything always be up for renewal when I don't really have money?) I'm only up to April! Why so many photos, self? I didn't realise I took nearly so many in Greenwich. Next stop, Hampton Court, I think.

I of course, was supposed to be doing something far more important today. It didn't go well.
aworldinside: (Peter smiling)
Work finished Monday. It was a pretty low-key last day, but nice in a way. Having leaving drinks on Thursday, which should be interesting, because I fly out to Belgium the next day. Thankfully not till 7pm, so hopefully I'll be fine. But I do have to navigate an Apple Genius appointment (laptop needs its trackpad fixed and it's best it goes away while I'm in Europe for a week and I won't miss it too desperately) and getting to Heathrow with clothes for a week on my back. Sounds fun.

My procrastination skills? Especially those in relation to employment. Still awesome. *sigh*

Fixating on the holiday really. Getting really excited about it now. Grand Prix! Amsterdam! Good coffee! Edinburgh!

I caught up on some TV:

True Blood: I Smell a Rat )

Mad Men: The Rejected and Mad Men: The Chrysanthemum and the Sword )

Comics

I also keep forgetting to mention that I finally finished Y:The Last Man! It's only taken me two years to read the last three trades. *headdesk* But I remained unspoiled which is a freaking miracle. In the end, it turned out a friend of mine owned them and when I was over at his house for a birthday party I yoinked them and read them on the train to and from Portsmouth.

*draws sparkly hearts around Brian K Vaughan* )

That was a good geeky birthday party actually. I ended up having a long fangirl-y conversation with someone there about Star Wars and Star Trek. Some of my friends have geeky interests but most of them lack the uh, dedication of a fangirl. It was awesome. :D

I also stumbled across Fuck Yeah Dick Grayson and rediscovered my Dick Grayson fangirl. <3 I do love the visual aspect that Tumblr has, but it's a different sort of fandom experience. I should expand on that at some point. Hmm.

Josh: (yeah, he gets a heading)

I've reached the 'going through the back catalogue of movies' stage. Urban Legend (the Blonde!Josh phase), Scream 2 (hardly in it really), Ocean's Eleven (any excuse to re-watch the poker scene, I love it so) and Shutter, which was the only one I watched all of as I hadn't seen it before. It was ... not as bad as I was expecting, but I would struggle to call it good. Josh and Rachel Taylor were gorgeous though, so on a shallow level, good movie. ;) Cruel Intentions is open in another tab, which I actually sort of love. Hi Ryan Phillipe. I will eventually get to his good movies, but they're harder to acquire.

I've also watched more Dawson's Creek clips than I'm comfortable with and yes, even one whole episode with no Dawson, and a lot of Joey/Pacey and yes, damn it, it was cute. *sigh*

You can imagine how unemployment is helping this.

I do have Fringe thoughts as well, but I think they can wait. *yawns*
aworldinside: (Eric)
Good news: Strikes are off. I have a holiday!
Bad news: I don’t have a job past Monday!

Yes, really. Funding issues mean that my last day will be Monday. This Monday just gone I was told I probably had a month, which wasn't great, but I had time to prepare and then yesterday, "oh sorry, not so much. This Monday. Sorry about that." My bosses did try to change it, but it didn’t work. I mean, I’m a temp and I get it’s precarious, they are within their rights to terminate my contract that quickly but still, it sucks hard. So fucking hard.

My boss gave me a very nice card and chocolates today (really good champagne truffles even) to say sorry. He’s awesome. I'll miss him.

My recruiter. Less awesome. Not returning my call. I have other options to try but still, you'd think she'd be in touch.

Anyway, happier things.

I caught up on True Blood's latest two eps, and they weren't as bad as I thought )

Mad Men is still pending. Should do something about that.

I wasn't going to mention Josh. Really. And then this happened:

I was innocently looking at this Cinematical post (okay, perhaps not that innocently as it’s about the title sequence in a movie I very well knew he was in, but anyway), and the YouTube clip that went with it wasn’t just the title sequence (which is pretty awesome btw) but the first ten minutes of the movie. About two minutes in … hi Josh with an electric guitar!

Clip below, guitar starts around 2.12 )

Seriously, when I wrote the list of things he could do/have done to make my crush worse, * I wasn’t seriously considering that he would actually, you know, have done them. You have to hit a ceiling with the awesome eventually, Mr Jackson, and I'm still waiting for it.

I sadly probably have Kristen Stewart fans to thank for this as she’s in the movie too and that’s probably the reason someone loaded in onto YouTube in the fist place.

* I'm cautiously adding to the list the coin trick Peter does in Fringe (t's really quite hot in an odd way), but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Josh did actually do it. Bastard is clearly that awesome.

Random:

- (via [livejournal.com profile] aurora_84) Awesome Fringe vid by [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl. It's gen and full of Olivia kick ass awesomeness, amazing editing and I think would serve as a great pimp vid into the fandom. So, go watch it. ;)

- You've probably seen it by now, but [livejournal.com profile] hackthis's post: How to Dress Your Man/Character: An Informal Tutorial Heavy on the PicSpam for Inception fandom is so cool. Lots of information on men's suits and totally reminded me that I really need to do that waistcoat picspam I keep meaning to do.

- The True Blood Rolling Stone cover I've seen linked everywhere with the naked and the blood does nothing for me. Nothing at all.

Anyway, should sleep or something. Had a pleasant evening just hanging with my flatmate and sort of watching Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Little planned for the weekend and I couldn't be more fine with that.
aworldinside: (Peter smiling)
My day could have been better (although there was Guitar Hero at the end - "Plug in Baby" is hard to play, dude), so I move on to fannish ramblings.

1. Thoughts on some recent interviews with the Fringe cast - spoilery for S3 )

I have a Peter and Tony Stark (potentially Peter/Tony Stark) fic idea rattling around my brain. Mmm. Also, a possible fanmix. No vid ideas yet, but I would say give it time. ;)

2. Joshua Jackson did Daily Show interviews in the early 2000's - I don't think it would be exaggerating to say these were extremely relevant to my interests )

Also, I mentioned that this crush could only get worse if I learned he played the piano in that episode of Fringe. Apparently, he motherfucking did. I give up. Seriously.

I will not watch actual episodes of Dawson's Creek as a result of this. No. Clips, yes. Bad horror movies Josh has been in, maybe, but Dawson is far too irritating.

3. I watched the first two episodes of Sherlock ... and I liked it, mostly. The first one was good, and I loved Martin Freeman as Watson but the second one dragged badly. I was going to put off the third one, but having seen so many posts about it on my flist of a !!! variety, I might bump it up the list of watching priorities.

4. Still have Mad Men to watch. True Blood, I know what happens, and still eh. I'm sure curiosity will get the better of me, but at the moment, there are other things that I'd rather watch. Like a ridiculous amount of Josh Jackson clips on YouTube.

5. I also really want to see Batman: Under the Red Hood. The trailer looked interesting.

6. Still haven't seen Toy Story 3. Must rectify.

Haha, oh god, I meant to go to bed early.
aworldinside: (Peter smiling)
Had a good weekend, the highlight of which was seeing Henry VIII performed at the Globe. So, so cool and really good performances. However, while I was glad to be standing and in the action, I would pay for a seat next time, because I'd been out all day and that was a lot of standing.

Did very little on Sunday. Did watch the Hungarian GP though, which was exciting in places, but oh, it was not McLaren's day. Also any shred of fannishness I had towards Michael Schumacher has gone after that move against Reubens. To be honest, I cannot remember why I was a fan in the first place.

I also continued on my path of insanity. As a indication of such, I present this list:

Things Joshua Jackson has done that have in no way, not at all, helped my somewhat ridiculous crush on him: a combined list/picspam )

Also, Josh aside, and talking of Fringe more generally, I seem to be shuffling around on Peter/Olivia.

For example, I don't like Coldplay, at all really, but part of me really does like this Peter/Olvia vid (Spoilers up to the end of S2). Coldplay 'shipper vids ... oh, brain. *shakes head* (To be fair, this one of their songs I find the least annoying). I think it has a lot to do with the prettiness that is Josh and Anna, and Josh's ability to have chemistry with pretty much everyone and everything. (I know Josh is not a big Peter/Olivia 'shipper and doesn't really want to do the romantic lead thing - fair enough, he's sort of done it to death in Dawson's Creek - but he's just so good at it).

I don't know. Like I said, I'm shuffling.

Mad Men: Christmas Comes But Once a Year )

True Blood to watch. Probably will before I go to bed, but I'm not expecting great things.

Also this happened before:

Flatmate: We have a new stove. Yay we're not going to die. (We had a gas leak, a small one, from the stove, long story).
Me: Yes, we're not going to die ... today ... caused by a gas leak. Wow, that got a little depressing. Sorry.

I really should catch up on the music meme.
aworldinside: (Eric)
I went to a Andy Zaltzman gig tonight! It was an Edinburgh preview show in a pub in Clapham with an audience of maybe 50 people at the most. So cool. He was using us as much as a focus group as an audience, which is amusing as the show is on in a week. Overall, I really enjoyed it. He wandered in places but the way he told the story of having to deliver his own son was hilarious, even though I'd heard it on The Bugle before. Thought really hard about saying hello after the gig because it would have been so easy to, but didn't. Kinda wish I had now. Ah well.

Other than that, Fringe obsession rolls on. Pondering fic. It was also distracting me from work and I in no way updated my Fringe S2 thoughts posts from a work computer this afternoon. Nope, not at all.

I also have a rampant speculative thought about S3 that I can't chase away )

Tangentially related: Funny-or-Die.com video shot during ComiCon of Pacey-Con 2010 starring Josh. Hilarious.

Mad Men was pretty good, but I have nothing really to say about it.

True Blood was, well I really need this show to be the Eric Northman Hour )

I thought there was something else, but I can't think of it right now. Oh, I should sleep.
aworldinside: (Eric)
1. London Film and Comic Con was a little underwhelming, to be honest. Did manage to see Katee Sackhoff do her 30 minute Q&A though, and she was adorable! 30 minutes wasn't long enough though. I spied Ben Browder (hot) and some others. Didn't see Mike Tyson (thankfully, it just freaks me out he was there), or William Shatner, whose Q&A cost money and who was in his own separate space for autographs.

After her cute Q&A I did get Katee's autograph (didn't really say a lot) and then picked up some adorable stickers.

Ozymandias and Nick Fury should not look this cute. Also, tribbles! )

2. My friend who I went to the con with lent me Fringe S1 on DVD and I watched an episode (or five) last night.

Thoughts so far )

I have managed to spoil myself a little though as I went reading Wikipedia when I shouldn't have. It's nothing I didn't have a vague inkling about though.

3. True Blood: Trouble )

4. Day 14. A song you listen to when you're happy

This was harder than I thought, because they're aren't a lot of songs I play just when I'm happy but I settled on this, because it's catchy, upbeat and I play it quite a bit.

The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger

List of days )

5. I made the best salad for dinner. Roast sweet potato/kumara, fresh spinach, feta and sesame and pumpkin seeds. Really good! But then I ate far too many peanut M&Ms. *sigh*

6. I have F1 tickets in my possession! \o/

7. I keep coming across the surname Banatvala at work, and every time I picture the red spiky Bannakaffalatta in "Voyage of the Damned." It amuses me, because the work it involves sure doesn't. It's fine, but I am over it. Oh yes. If I have to look at one more set of papers ...
aworldinside: (Red profile)
I finally caught up on Mad Men Season 3 in the weekend. I started on Friday night, and finished at 11am on Sunday morning. I loved it. And the new season starts in two weeks. Yaaay.

Mad Men Season 3, or I ramble on a lot about Joan and Roger )

Need icons.

In other news:

1. The most recent True Blood ep was really, really blah. Tonight, even more than usual; Eric, Pam, Jessica and Lafayette were the only ones worth watching. Alcide is getting closer to that line, but isn't there yet.

2. British GP was interesting. Jenson had an awesome race and was adorable afterwards with the BBC commentary crew and Rubens Barichello. Seriously. Too adorable. I perhaps went on too much about that particular topic to my friend who was over. We were supposed to be applying for jobs together, but that didn't really happen.

3. The World Cup is over. :( I watched the final in a pub with some friends and well, it was ill-tempered to say the least and a little disappointing as a football match. I was supporting The Netherlands but Spain did deserve to win in the end. I was happy for Cesc. And while I am discussing Cesc. He needs to stay at Arsenal. Needs to. *nods with purpose*

4. Work was a little blah. Need to find a job out of the public sector as it's all getting a little scary and it's only going to make the job market worse. Happy thoughts.

5. The Muse clips from T in the Park looked a little lackluster but the short interview Matt and Dom did was amusing, if only because of how hungover Matt looked and the story of how he dressed up like a workman to see Prince.
aworldinside: (smile)
Went to see Them Crooked Vultures tonight at Brixton Academy and they were all sorts of awesome. I've been wanting to see them for ages!

Dave Grohl on drums! Dave Grohl on drums! Not enough hearts in the world! He was fabulous and just smacked the hell out of those drums. Damn, he rocked. I'm usually all about the guitarists (and they all were great, and John Paul Jones played a freaking violin <3), but tonight was all about Dave for me. Shocker.

The sound was a little fuzzy (though better than when I saw LCD Soundsystem at the same venue) and my ears are still ringing and it's actually just annoying now, but apart from that it was a great night. I should really get the rest of their album. *is a bad fan*

I was expecting new True Blood and there was none. Sad panda. I guess because it's 4th of July weekend. But I've had these thoughts about last week's WTF ep on this DW post page for so long I should actually just post them.

True Blood: It Hurts Me Too  )

Also, I am still doing the music meme, it just took me ages to come up with a song for this, and well, I'm lazy.

Day 11. A song that describes you

I perhaps thought about this too much, but I eventually looked through the songs I play a lot and settled on this because a) I like the song and played it a lot at a certain point a year or two ago and b), I do always seem to be apologising a lot and not getting certain thoughts out of my head.

The Sounds - Queen of Apology

Live video and list of days )

I'm tempted to do the 30 days of TV meme that is going around after this. Unless someone is really sick of these day by day memes, but I'm enjoying it. It's making me think.

Also, I really need to watch Band of Brother's again after reading [personal profile] lithium_doll's post from her 30 day meme. Winters and Nixon. <3
aworldinside: (Default)
For a Tuesday today was actually good. The weather was awesome, the bank got me my new debit card far quicker than I thought they would, and I got a refund for the money that was fraudulently removed from my account. I can pay rent!

09: A song from your favourite band

Um, so this wasn't too hard. ;)

I have promised myself that I'm going to use a different band/artist for each question though, so this is the last Muse song you'll see. Really.

Anyway, while doing this meme and finding songs to use I've discovered that I really love songs that go quiet then really rocky-loud (see: Paranoid Android, Monkeywrench - although that's more loud and louder, and a great number of Muse songs), and I wanted to chose a less obvious Muse song, so here is their cover of Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Muse - Can't Take My Eyes Off You (Frankie Vali Cover)

MP3 quality could possibly be better. Hmm.

I would be so, so happy if they played this at Wembley in September.

Also, it's quite sad that I never made the connection between this version and Heath Ledger singing this in 10 Things I Hate About You (love) until I saw it linked as a related video on YouTube. It is one of my favourite scenes from that movie and probably my favouurite scene Heath Ledger ever did. Just, sad.

Muse playing this live in 2002 and the list of days )

And my connection finally played nice to let me watch this:

Day 07. A song you can dance to

I ummed and ahhed about this for a bit, there was nearly some NZ drum and bass, which I should share at some other point, but in the end I went for this.

Outkast - B.O.B

I really can't remember this coming out in NZ in 2000; I don't think Outkast were that big there at the time (probably not until Hey Ya), so I've only heard this recently, but damn it's infectious and makes me tap my foot every single time. I love it.

Music video and list of days )

Also, there was this True Blood: Bad Blood )

I really should have stretched more after climbing on Sunday. Ow. Ow.

Yeah, I missed a day. It was inevitable.

05. A song that reminds you of somewhere.

This one was easier than I thought. 'Country House' came up on the iPod and suddenly I was back in my room when I was 12, curled up in bed secretly listening to the radio after I was supposed to be asleep. I was always more of an Oasis girl, but I remember this song coming out so clearly. The era when you taped stuff off the radio. It's kind of amusing now.

Blur - Country House

Country House music video. Linked as I can't seem to find a version that will let me embed it.

List of days )

Coincidentally Blur's documentary 'No Distance Left to Run' is on BBC4 at the moment and it's making me all nostalgic. Even 'Tender' which I didn't even really like that much.

I also seem to have deleted a lot of the Blur I had on this computer, because I swear I owned their Best Of. Grr.

I'm so going to stay up and watch their Glastonbury set from last year now. Their Hyde Park concerts last year looked amazing too. I was wondering when they were because I couldn't remember them happening when I was over, and turns out it was about 10 days before I arrived in London.

Unrelatedly, the Eric clips from the new season from True Blood are not helping my anticipation. Yes, this would be the anticipation I didn't really know I had, but I do apparently.

Mmm, Angry Eric and Eric/Sookie )

Edit: Gah, Glastonbury. I need to go to a festival. Also, I never had a really thought about the guitar work on their songs but Graham Coxon fucking rocks. Oh, it's always the lead guitarist with me, it's true. ;)
aworldinside: (Default)
I have been lax about LJ-ing recently (RL *sigh*), but Chrome is not helping right now. Once you're out of beta, you're supposed to be more stable, damnit. Although this could have something to do with the amount of free space on my machine. I need to tidy again.

I have been experiencing something of a Rolling Stones fandom resurgence. I listened to the new tracks on the re-released 'Exile on Main Street' and the love came back. Most of them are awesome, especially the Soul Survivor alternate take with Keith singing crazy lyrics, and just being Keith. <3 This also wasn't helped by the BBC screening Stones in Exile, the documentary about the making of Exile on Main Street, on Sunday. Oh, Stones (esp Keith) I heart you for reasons I can't quite articulate.

On a semi-related note, I was linked via [livejournal.com profile] ontd_downey to RDJ's Inside the Actors Studio (which is awesome btw) and then ended up (oh, YouTube) at Johnny Depp's, and he was wearing a Keith Richards t-shirt! <3 I love his love for Keith.

I'm a little behind on TV. I haven't got to the latest Dr Who (I've heard varying reports) and I *still* need to watch the pilots of Caprica and Treme which have been sitting on my laptop forever. I do however have The Good Wife, which I think I'll be watching before I go to bed, as I'm really enjoying it and Alan Cumming is incredibly awesome.

I did catch the season of finales of Gossip Girl and Bones, both of which were underwhelming for different reasons. Bones was just, blah, really blah, which it shouldn't have been, and Gossip Girl was just too much drama, which yes, is the point, but it was all a little exhausting and circular.

I also didn't think I'd really missed True Blood, but the trailers and clips I've seen have me quite intrigued. Damn you, Skarsgard, this is your fault.

Also, while I'm going on about random TV, I caught an episode of Glee on Monday. Huh. It was okay, admittedly helped by the fact that Neil Patrick Harris was guest-starring, but I could watch it again. I'm unsure I guess, but I quite enjoyed it.

Okay, the list of tags for this post grew crazy fast. *boggles*

After first listen through of The Resistance: I like most of it, but it needs more epic guitars. However, I love "Unnatural Selection", "United States of Eurasia" has totally grown on me and "Exogenesis" is damn cool.

John Simm is doing a play in London for the next couple of months! Must go.

Daily Show is back! <3

GMail: You're pre-order of "The Resistance" by Muse is ready to be downloaded.

iTunes 9: You must have Safari 4.0.3 installed to run the iTunes Store ...
Me: Fuck *goes on install Safari 4.0.3* (I was still running the public beta for unknown reasons)
Safari installer: You must have OSX 10.5.7 to install Safari 4.0.3 ...
Me: Fuck.
Software Update: You must have 5.7G free space to update to OSX 10.5.7 ...
Me: *reaches for second HD muttering*

Moral of the story: Don't put off Software Update because you can't be bothered restarting your laptop and moving files to your second hard drive.

*sigh*

Why I am posting this instead of actually running Software Update I do not know.

Also, as a Muse related aside, due to a long tube ride to and from Hampstead and an interesting post at [livejournal.com profile] ontd_muse, I listened to all of "Absolution" and "Black Holes and Revelations" in album order, and while there are some songs I love on BH&R, "Absolution" really is a much tighter, cohesive album experience. It's definitely my favourite. I worry that what I have listened to of "The Resistance" is more like BH&R than A. Ah well. I do like most of the songs I've heard so far.

And also to be fair, I rarely listen to a whole album in order. Usually it's just when I buy a new one for the first few listens. I prefer a more jumbled, haphazard approach to my music. Shuffle is my good, good friend. But after today's "Absolution" experience I might. It really was awesome.

ASkars aside: It's been confirmed he's definitely not going to the Emmys. *sigh* There will however be new True Blood when I wake up, so I guess that's something.

It's been a very blah day, so I am self-medicating with Ben and Jerry's (who are awesome btw). I was going to try another flavour, but I ended up with Cookie Dough again. Nom. This container is far emptier than I would like to admit.

I think I'm going to check out Oxford tomorrow. It's easy to do as a day trip, I've wanted to go since I was a little kid, and I just need to get out of the house and not just for a walk to the supermarket/run (yes, really, sort of) through the Common.

In a similar vein, I also bought a ticket for Kevin Smith's Q&A in October because I really wanted to go, life's too short and it's cheaper than flying somewhere to see Muse (which will have to wait until I have a job of some sort sadly).

True Blood: Frenzy or as I called on Twitter the Eric Northman Variety Hour )

--

I've been mostly ignoring mention of new season shows, but I caught this clip of the new ABC show Flash Forward which stars John Cho and Joesph Fiennes (!). Joseph, who I had a ridiculous crush on at 16 due to Elizabeth and seeing him play Robert Dudely (who I also have/had a historical crush on) and who I used to look for internet news on all the time! I mean, yes, Joseph Fiennes, cool. I'm intrigued, even if Joesph's accent is throwing me off a little as I keep expecting him to talk with a British accent. I'm easily thrown by that, and I think non-US actors trying to pull off the accent can overdo it (especially if it's southern, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and to a lesser extent Ryan Kwanten) but it can also be done well (Hugh Laurie). Not sure where Joseph sits at this stage.

Seeing District 9 in the weekend!

It's nice when you have a new fandom, it really is. The fic, the constant re-watching/re-reading of the source, the hunt for YouTube happiness and picspams, the slightly obsessive screencapping of Walts* but sometimes it's to the detriment of other things, like job hunting. I'm looking at you Generation Kill (and to a lesser extent True Blood)! Must do things tomorrow.

However, I did join a library today, because I found Evan Wright's book and then started reading it. (Which is enjoyable and extremely readable, btw). *headdesk*

But while I'm here, I watched a mostly Eric-free episode of True Blood and enjoyed it. So, it's not all about Eric. Really. However, the preview for next week does look awesome.

Preview and sightly spoilerific thoughts )

I seem to be very susceptible to ear-worms at the moment. I had one from a freaking Home and Away promo just before. That has now been exorcised, by one from Gen Kill. ;)
