It's been a weird/busy/insane week. AO3 testing (new code is live!), really sad news from New Zealand, Buzzcocks filming, LCD Soundsystem/Hot Chip concert in new and exciting parts of North London and then a girls night in last night. Oy.

Last night it was pizza, the house to myself and well, this:

Fringe: 6995 kHz )

In conclusion, as ever: this show!! <3

*plugs fingers in ears at any mention of ratings*

Random other things of awesome:

1. Rosario was on the Daily Show!! And was flirting with Jon. I <3 her.

2. Jon was interviewed by Rachel Maddow for basically her whole show. Really, really interesting interview, and I love their mutual respect and like for one another. It's all sorts of cute, intelligent and interesting.

3. Jon Hamm being adorable on Conan.

4. Daniel Racliffe reciting all the element on the periodic table on Graham Norton. Seriously. <3

Fic rec:

In the course of OMG Testing this week I discovered this awesome Fringe/Inception crossover. Eames, Arthur, Yusuf and Ariadne are people Peter has worked with the past, and it's so well done. Also, a little bit of Peter/Eames which really does work.

Also, I seem to have developed a thing for Peter/Olivia domestic scenes. Yeah, I know. Relatedly, I guess I pretty much am a Peter/Olivia 'shipper at this point.

I had not one but two job interviews today. Ugh. The first one was okay and the second one (which is the second interview for the job I really want) went well, I think, but the more I think about it the more doubts I have. I am so over this job-hunting thing.

However, I did get to spend the rest of the day just wandering around Central London before meeting a friend for coffee at 5:30. Despite the downpour at about 1:30 (so, so glad I bought a new umbrella earlier on in the day), I was having a very 'I Love London' day. Wandered around the British Museum for a bit, Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square. I love it.

I also may have, slightly ill-advisedly, bought the first trade of The Umbrella Academy which I read while killing time this afternoon. Overall, I really enjoyed it and am now, of course, keen to read the next one. Damn. You did well, Gerard, you did very well. This is not helping my developing fondness towards you.

The Fringe premiere is probably airing now (in one US time-zone or other)! And actually my job interviews were timed to perfection as I have nothing to do tomorrow and so can watch it as soon as possible! I am pretty excited about it!

I have been reading many, many positive reviews and people (critics and those on TV/geek blogs) saying awesome things about the show. I hope the ratings reflect the positivity in some way, as I still remain a trifle nervous about its survival given that this is FOX, but then again, they've kept it around this long so maybe it's okay, and apparently it has very high DVR ratings and it is in one insane time-slot. Will be interesting to see how it goes anyway.

Josh Fringe links:

1. Awesome Josh interview: The interviewer it a tiny bit of a fangirl (in a good way) and there's a lot of teasing about Dawson's Creek and the like and at one point he says: 'Some of it was bullshit. But it was glorious bullshit.' <3
2. Cute cast interview (minus Anna, who I guess was filming): Short, but the question about what people are like on set is totally worth it if you're a Josh fan. He's ridiculous.

Other links:

1. Super cute Barbara Gordon fanart. Babs <3
2. Jon Stewart on Bill O'Reilly. He gets some pretty awesome calls in. Also his appearance on Oprah (which sadly reminded me how much Oprah bugs me) was pretty adorable too.
3. They've changed the IMDB profile pages. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. I will have to investigate further. I liked an actor's whole filmography on the page without having to click, damnit. (It's Victor Garber's because well, he's pretty awesome, and I was trying to figure out why he was in a photo with Kristen Bell).

Not a link:

There is not enough time in the day to get through all the awesome Inception fic I want to read. I always have many tabs of fic open I never get to. *sigh*

I meant to post this !!!! post last night, but I got distracted, but basically it boils down to the internet and being a fan was all sorts of awesome last night.

1. Fringe 3 minute promo of epic epicness. Seriously. I just ... it needs to be Thursday right this minute.

Embedded below - sort of spoilery for the first two eps of S3 )

The first two eps have also been getting some insanely good reviews, including this one by Charlie-Jane at io9. I am ... optimistic, and happy for the show, because it deserves a little recognition (not specifically from io9 but the wider media in general), and while I'm asking for things, John Noble needs a nomination of some sort. C'mon Golden Globe voters, you're bandwagon jumpers. ;)

2. Do I need to mention that I loved the last two episodes of The Daily Show? Well, I did. A whole heap. I wish I lived in the US. I would so be there. Also, Jon flirting with Jon Hamm! That was amazing.

3. Via an ONTD post I got pointed at the trailer for The Adjustment Bureau and it looks pretty cool. Matt Damon, John Slattery, sort of sci-fi, characters that remind me too much of The Observers ... looks interesting.

I think that's it. I should get up and get ready. I did have no plans this weekend. Now I'm going to Windsor Castle today (pricy, which isn't ideal, but it's on my to-do list of tourist-y things to see) and meeting up with a friend tomorrow. Also, it seems to be sunny. Win.

Haha, oh I meant to go to bed early. This post will probably be shorter than I had planned, but I really want to get it done as its been in my head for days now.

New job is going well. Nicest building I've worked in so far. Commute is easy, it's right by the Thames, modern chairs and computers, Outlook 2007 (never been so happy to see it in my life, no Lotus Notes yay) and most importantly a free coffee machine that grinds beans. No instant, no BYO coffee. I was so happy when I saw it, and the coffee is goood. I can see my caffeine addiction growing. Because it really needed to. ;)

Job itself is not exactly exciting, but it's fine.

And I seem to have an interview for another job that I really want first thing on Monday morning, which wasn't exactly my first choice of time, but there you go. Fingers crossed.

Now, to the fangirling.

True Blood: Evil Is Going On )

I did watch the most recent Mad Men, but I don't have anything really to say about it. Good solid episode, but I guess a little bit lessened in comparison to the awesome that was last week.

Random links:

1. Fringe S2 Blooper reel!! I've been waiting for this to hit the internet for ages and oh it was as awesome as I was hoping. Anna and Josh making stupid faces! Josh cracking jokes all the time! A (sadly bleeped out) swearing montage (again mostly starring Josh and Anna). The return of Lance's "one more time." I love this cast a ridiculous amount, and I will be watching this ... a lot.

Embedded here )

2. America Is a Joke: cool NY Mag profile of Jon Stewart. <3

3. Matt Bellamy is wearing blue jeans and a checked shirt God, that's so weird for Matt. It's like ... I hate to say normal, but well, normal. ;) Him and Kate look quite cute together tbh. Eh, hating takes effort. If he's happy more power to him.

4. This got linked everywhere but if you haven't seen Joseph Gordon-Levitt singing and snarking his way through a cover of "Bad Romance" you should. Guh. Yes, you should. Guitar. Snark. And it's not actually too bad a cover, at all.

5. This is random, and I think it might be just me with these two particular fandoms in common, but this picture breaks my brain. Fandoms colliding!

Josh and Jean Todt?! )

6. Arsenal won 6-0 tonight. Yaaay. And Cesc is looking good, both on a football and a completely superficial level.

I also went and loaded some more fic to AO3 and found a cool Tony/CJ snippet that I apparently wrote in 2007 and still sort of like. A miracle. I also found my WaT fic. Oh. I am warring between, "no, you should archive all your fic except the really bad HP fic we do not name" (seriously there is a folder on my laptop called "The Fic That Must Not Be Named") and "no, that fic is bad. Bad." I think my completist tendencies are going to win out.

Phew. I think that's it.

So, uh, hi, LJ, how are you? I'm good, kinda scared than in 4 weeks I'll be leaving Wellington for quite some time, but you know, okay, I guess. A freak out is imminent.

I haven't posted or really been around for the last couple of weeks. Was in Christchurch last weekend and the last few days have just been busy and insane. Have a free day today, well, kinda. I need to start sorting out my books into the store in Chch/give away or sell piles. Eeep. I know people who are very anti the book collection pruning thing, but I think it needs to be done every now and then. Let's hope its slightly more successful than pruning the comic collection, which I meant to halve (not as scary as it sounds, and I haven't read some of them in years) .... and let's just say, I didn't. Damn you comics!

I also meant to start this whole process a lot earlier, but spent last night watching State of Play (really not too bad, Russel Crowe, Rachel MacAdams <3, Helen Mirren all awesome, but I spent a lot of time comparing it to he mini-series) and this morning, well, I checked [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama and ended up in a spiral of video awesomeness that ended with lots of clips of the NBC White House special, and the fact that Rahm Emaneul has a photo of him kissing Stephen Colberts's cheek (see icon) in his office. It may have been a gag for the cameras, but does he really have that kind of time? Anyway, awesome.

So, yes book sorting now. Really. Hope you're all well.

Also, the Daily Show this week has been amazing. So many good bits (including them sending Jason Jones to Tehran, OMG) but the high point for me being ...

Napoleon!Jon and Duke of Wellington!John )

Dude, I love them so much.
aworldinside: (Default)
One day I will really make the substantive posts I keep meaning to.

But today, LJ, I am here to tell you that Rahm Emanuel has been in my dreams for two nights in a row (and no, not like that, mostly). Too much [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama do you think? ;) I'm not complaining persay, I'm just amused. I hardly ever get fandom dreams (and interesting how the White House Chief of Staff is now a fandom).

I've been remembering my dreams a lot more recently actually, don't quite know what that's about.

Also, the Jon Stewart and Jon Oliver bit in tonight's TDS was pretty damn awesome.

Edit: Wow, it's been 10 days since I last posted. It doesn't feel like that for some reason.
aworldinside: (Default)
I spent the day at a web conference, Webstock, in fact, and dude, it's awesome. I went last year and loved it and I thankfully got the opportunity to go again this year and it just makes you feel so positive about the internet and what you can do with it and what people are doing with it now.

Also, tremendously geeky event. Lots of Twittering (including one whole conversation on Imperial Star Destroyer vs USS Enterprise that a speaker started), more than one presentation referenced WoW, there was also a zombie apocalpyse, a non-fandom description of \o/, the stupidity of You Tube comments and one entire presentation on what it meant to be a geek/nerd/dork by the guy who wrote the awesome article, N.A.D.D. (Nerd Attention Deficit Disorder). And coffee, lots of really good free coffee.

Watching Rachel Maddow clips to fill in The Daily Show withdrawal. Seriously. It's only a week, but I miss you, Jon. I do love Rachel though. I should watch her online much more often.

I also have this niggling feeling about my Grand Plans for an OE this year. I'm just wondering whether this year is really the best time to do this with all the stuff I've been hearing/reading (yeah, I probably haven't helped myself on this one) about the economy and job situation. I really do feel quite strongly about needing to go out, but I just wonder if it might not work out quite as well as I think. *sigh* Being an adult is hard.
aworldinside: (Default)
My first day back at work was not wonderful (first days should be relaxing and not involve an avalanche of work that needs to be done now, now, oy) but I came home and there was an empty house, and beer, and salmon on really good bread and then, finally, there was The Daily Show.

Oh, god I've missed this show.

And, and, Rachel Maddow is on it tomorrow! Yes, really. \o/

I don't know how I will deal with that much awesome on my laptop screen at once. There are not enough little hearts in the world.

Also, there may have been Jon Walker related fic bunnies yesterday (probably an unoriginal idea, but it was fun) and I finally, kinda got the Patrick Stump thing via his little Garage Band tutorial here (link via [livejournal.com profile] shirasade). Resistance is futile, clearly.

And he sings in 'Mad as Rabbits' and while Panic's first album sort of annoys me,  the second one is actually enjoyable, in a guilty pleasure sort of way ... *whistles innocently*

This has been a post of Jons. Huh.

And even as an Apple user, this is hilarious. Oh, The Onion. Never stop being awesome.

aworldinside: (Default)
Back from [livejournal.com profile] get__together. Was awesome to hang around with fangirls for the weekend watching vids, and watching some very cool fannish presentations. I was also reminded how awesome Fidel's eggs florentine is. Mmm. I am tired though, and almost, kinda *gasp* media-ed out. Which is why I'm sitting in front of a screen now. ;)

However, I include this, which is unrelated but something I found this morning and said I'd link to.

Dark Knight trailer mixed with Toy Story. I may not look at Woody the same again. Well done though.

Have left the decision about Armageddon in Auckland quite late. Will have to check flights.

Work tomorrow. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. *sigh*

Random link: Jon Stewart as a Peanuts character with Linus blanket!
aworldinside: (Default)
The Daily Show has been inspired the last two days. I mean, it's good normally, but these last two days the segments have been amazing and hilarious, and how is Mike Huckabee so damn likeable when I disgaree with him on basically everything?

Favourite clip embedded below: Samantha Bee <3! )

Other awesome political clips.

Joe Biden in Pennsylvania on Friday. He just rips into McCain's speech and the Republicans in general. <3

Matt Lauer interviews Jon Stewart. There aren't enough <3 signs in the world. Seriously.

Also, I saw Hellboy last night. I enjoyed it a lot and oh god, one scene in particular was the one of the funniest and delightful things I've seen in ages. Spoiler )

And OMG, I think it's stopped raining for a little bit. I might go outside and check out the book fair. (What? I don't need more books and haven't read all the ones I have now? Sshh, no one has to know).
aworldinside: (Default)
As if I wasn't already looking forward to "The Shrine", these promo pics came along. *flail*

Also, this interview with Joe Flanigan is made of a boatload of awesome (link via [livejournal.com profile] tex). He's so hilarious in this, and there are some classic quotes. ("Well, you’ve got to walk away from the blackjack table. Save the galaxy.") He lists getting a new skateboard as a highlight of Season 5, oh and "The Shrine." <3! (S5 spoilers in the interview). So much love.

I better not get my hopes up too high, this could end badly.

If you are in anyway inclined towards Doctor Who fanvids, you should totally check out [livejournal.com profile] flummery's vid here. It's so, so well done and just seriously, watch it.

Random link: Batman hoodie as worn here by John Mayer, who I can totally take or leave, but the hoodie is awesome.

Random link II: Is Jon Stewart the Most Trusted Man in America?. Cool article on Jon and TDS in the NYTimes. Includes cute quotes about Jon from Stephen Colbert.
aworldinside: (Default)
I know I've linked to them before, but John Oliver and Andy Zaltman's "The Bugle" podcasts are made of many, many different kinds of awesome. I was listening to them at work today (while working, really) and I have not consistently laughed at something so hard in ages. <3!

Also, I just watched last night's Daily Show on the site, and John Oliver's Fox 'documentary' was really sort of wonderful. In a ripping-FOX-to-shreds kinda way ;) And the interview was really interesting too.

I embed them under the cut because I can, as well as a couple of other TDS clips I had to watch again while I was on the site.

How so awesome? )

Also, while I am overusing the word awesome in a post. SGA fandom = most awesome fandom ever, for many reasons.

I was reminded of this post by [livejournal.com profile] mona1347 I memoried a while back (read: two years), which draws hilarious comparisons between fandoms and the hard drugs they represent. SGA is totally acid.
aworldinside: (Default)
Jon Stewart was on my TV tonight!

This, and the fact that my broadband has ticked over for the month, and I am actually attaining broadband like speeds has made my largely grumpy day a lot better.

I was a little conflicted about the TDS thing, since they don't have a deal like Letterman (though Jon seemed to indicate that they had tried to get one and Viacom had even agreed), but most of the show was on the strike, with a bit of hassling of Mike Huckabee thrown in there, and oh, the cross to Stephen was adorable.

Honestly, I didn't realise how much I missed them until they were right there.

And yeah, maybe still feeling a little conflicted.
aworldinside: (Default)
I probably should have worked late tonight, but I came home because I am determined (determined) to get my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic finished tonight, if not completely edited.

It's just one thing on the long list of things that I am procrastinating about at the moment (including, uh, all my Christmas shopping) and I just need to stop. God.

Also, uh, the people I said I'd send Christmas card to ... they may be more like Happy New Years cards. ;) Sorry!

On a happier note, on my whirlwind ride through SGA seasons I seemed to have missed out 'Sateda.' Wow, that was an oversight. Oh, JOHN. Oh, RONON. Oh, TEAM. Oh, boys sitting on the floor!

Finally, I've been surprised by how long it's taken, but damn, I miss Jon Stewart something fierce right now.
aworldinside: (Default)
Oh, internet I knew you wouldn't let me down.

The Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell hug from the Emmys tonight/last night (depending what part of the world you're in). Much love. <3

I meant to go to bed like an hour and half ago. Facebook = crack.
aworldinside: (Default)
I had a very eh day at work today, and to be honest, I can't see the next, oh, six weeks getting any better. (Just, who the fuck thought I could take over her job for six weeks. Honestly). However, I got home and there was beer, curry, LJ and The Daily Show, and I'm feeling a lot better. More relaxed anyway.

Stuff Tali Has Enjoyed Recently:

- I watched The Corporation last night, and wow that was scary/depressing/fascinating. An awesome documentary actually and I definitely recommend it. I also borrowed the 2-disc set from my friend with the ridiculous amount of extras, which I'm really looking forward to getting into.

- I also located DVDs of Blackpool aka Six Hours of David Tennant and his Scottish Accent. Guh. I liked it, and the musical aspects were really well done, but there's something that held me back from really loving it, and it might be Sarah Parish, who while I have no doubt is an excellent actress, vaguely annoys me. But, David Tennant was wonderful and Scottish. Mmmm.

- I finally saw The Bourne Ultimatum over the weekend too, and I really enjoyed it. No travel-sickness! I don't know if the camera work was gentler on this movie compared to The Bourne Supremacy, or if I was just used to it, but it didn't annoy me nearly as much. The movie was just paced wonderfully too. David Strathairn is awesome. *nods* (And he narrated a series on the US Supreme Court! *loves*)

- West Wing tribute video with clips from blooper reels and interviews and it made me totally nostalgic and feel like I really need to catch up on S6-7 and have a West Wing marathon. (link via [livejournal.com profile] dianora2

- Finally, I stumbled upon Stephen Colbert's interview with Charlie Rose on YouTube, and OMG love! I don't think I actually have seen him intreviewed when not in character, and while Charlie Rose kind of annoyed me as an interviewer, the interview was awesome. He's so softly spoken and polite, and intelligent, and adorable! I already had a pretty high estimation of the guy before seeing this, but it still went up.

Between him and Jon Stewart, I, just, yeah. <3!
aworldinside: (Default)
This Daily Show clip is a beautiful thing. Honestly, I just love this clip so much, as it makes a really important point about US policy in the Middle East so well. <3!

And while I'm linking:

Branson vs Colbert: This is just too cute. Like Rachel Sklar said, I don't know how people branded this as uncomfortable, made for some good publicity for Stephen though.
aworldinside: (Default)
Oh, I love Jon Stewart. I just watched this interview he did with Bill Moyers and just, so much love. It's a very cool and really quite in-depth interview and has clips of some of the best recent Daily Show moments. He just, makes so much sense and it is not afraid to say what's going on behind everything, and just, yeah, I love him.

Also, talking of Bill Moyers, he's also done an awesome hour and half documentary on the media pre-Iraq War called Buying the War which I watched last night (yay for PBS streaming). If you're at all interested in US politics and media and how they relate, I really recommend it.

Moving away from politics, I watched the Keira version of Pride and Prejudice again last night, and I've watched it quite a few times now, but the sheer prettiness of it strikes me every time. The movie has its faults, but the cinematography and the way it's shot is just gorgeous. Keira, Rosamund Pike and Matthew MacFadyen don't exactly hurt it's pretty factor either. ;) Honestly, it just makes me want to cap and icon and I don't get the urge that often. (Though saying that I wish I did, because wow do my icons need an overhaul).

Finally, a moment of self-pimping, kinda. Some workmates and I decided it would be fun to take a digital photo a day for a year and upload it to a Flickr account (I know this isn't an original idea - it's been around a while) and we started a couple of months ago. Mine are here if anyone's curious. I'm quite proud of some of them, but others are the result of me still not quite knowing how to focus my camera properly.
aworldinside: (Default)
Jon Stewart + Chocolate + Hugh Laurie = A much improved evening.

I really did enjoy House tonight actually, though Wilson is almost getting annoying and that is just not on.

C4 is now playing The Daily Show at 10pm Tues-Fri, and it's the full US version from earlier that day (NZ time). I, just, love them so much right now. And plus Jon Stewart was interviewing the guy who wrote the latest book on The Supreme Court! And they hassled Scalia at lot!

Yeah, I don't hide the geek any more. Not that I ever did really.

I also want to get the latest two eps of Heroes I've missed, because they sound awesome (especially the most recent one), but our flat internet limit is already over for this month. Damn. Then again, extra gigs aren't that expensive.

Tomorrow has the possibility of sucking really hard. I'm quite resigned to it, really.

ETA: Wow, I used 'really' a lot in this post.
