Hawaii Five-0 2x22 )

Game of Thrones 2x06 )

Parks and Recreation 4x22 )

And I meant to post this last night, but since I didn't I have also watched:

Fringe 4x22 )

No hockey for two days, what is this strange world. Nervous about tomorrow morning. Hope the Rangers can pull it off, even though I would feel for the Caps.

Random Alex O'Loughlin pic: he's quite distracting. He's now shaven off the fauxhawk, which makes me a little sad. He's rocking it here, and it would have been awesome to see him show up the UpFronts with it.
aworldinside: (Alex tattoos)

  1. The weather today has been awful so I have dedicated today to watching ALL the Parks and Rec (I started on 2x21 this morning and now I'm watching 3x15. Oops?) So much love. So much. Ron and Leslie's friendship has reminded me how much I love well-done platonic friendships between men and women. Ron and Leslie, Sheridann and Ivanovia, Will and Diane. Also, Ben! Ben and Leslie are so precious. I want to hug them forever.

  2. Hawaii Five-0 2x18 )

  3. I also just heard about Alex taking a break from the show because of issues with pain medication following a shoulder injury. :( Oh, darling. I'm glad he's getting the help he needs and wish him all the best. xx It hits a bit close to home with something happening in RL too. All too real.

  4. Babylon 5 watching now in S5. The end of S4 was so good. Feelings.

  5. I finally got around to reading gyzym's Avalanche of Detour Signs (Sherlock, Molly and Molly/Lestrade). So, so good. Molly <3

  6. My laptop did incredibly weird shutting-down things last night but it seems okay today. It's 4.5 years old and this year is so not the time for it to die. *hugs it close*

  7. In happier news, I am cautiously optimistic that my contract at work is being extended for a little while, but I really need to get on that permanent-job thing.

I seem to have forgotten about dinner. Silly internet. Silly face of Alex O'Loughlin.

Hawaii Five-0 2x17 - there shall be no discussion of the plot under this cut )

And in the weekend there was this:

Fringe: A Better Human Being )

I enjoyed The Good Wife as well but don't have anything really substantial to say except that I adore Will and Diane's friendship so very much. I am also getting a little over Eli - I hope that changes.

I am also still watching allll the Babylon 5 - I'm now mid S4 which is further than I've watched before and the plotting is just so good - even if the acting can be a little hit and miss and the the 1990's take on future fashion is frightening. I must admit that I spoiled myself completely for the rest of the series last night by reading episode summaries. My need to know overcame my willingness to take the time to watch another season and a half. Impatient? Me? I will watch the rest of course, I can just take it a little slower now. ;)

So um ... food I guess.

Fringe: Forced Perspective )

--

I saw the Muppets this afternoon. Adorable!

More exclamation points this way )

The Toy Story short that ran before it was awesome too.

I also saw the trailer for The Pirates: Band of Misfits which is being done by Aardman Studios. It looks so much fun.

In my effort to catch up with all the movies I want to see (still on the list: Tintin, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Melancholia ... I think I've given up on the Midnight in Paris thing ) I also saw Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy on Thursday. I liked it, the acting is great and the cinematography is awesome and well, spies. I do not recommend it if you're tired though - it is not a fast paced film.

And because this post is clearly all about the movies, I saw bits and pieces of The Back-Up Plan today - I say bits and pieces because despite the constant presence of Alex O'Loughlin's face, it was a pretty painful viewing experience. Damn you Tumblr .gifs for making me curious. It is a very pretty face though ...

Random vid rec: It's Raining Men - starring many a man from period dramas. Matthew MacFadyen, Colin Firth, Dan Stevens, Alan Rickman, they're all there. Quite nice editing too on top of being pretty amusing.

This weekend has just disappeared. *sigh* I did however see The Dresden Dolls last night. I'm not quite as big a fan as I used to be but the did a 3+ hour set with a version of the time-warp, a cover of "The Mercy Seat," a cover of "War Pigs" and all their hits. It was pretty epic and they looked like they were having so much fun with it. Glad I went in the end. Live music ftw.

I had plans for today. Plans, I tell you. And then I found out the H50 big bang fics had been revealed. Bang (I did that unintentionally I swear). Day gone.

Two recs:

Happiness is Homemade (41804 words) by faviconsirona, faviconellievolia
Fandom: Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Steve McGarrett/Danny "Danno" Williams, Chin Ho Kelly/Malia
Characters: Danny "Danno" Williams, Kono Kalakaua, Chin Ho Kelly, Steve McGarrett, Grace Williams, John McGarrett, Mrs McGarrett, Rachel Edwards, Stan Edwards, Mary Ann McGarrett, Malia Waincroft, Original Characters
Summary:

It's not easy, running a Jersey-style bakery in Hawai'i. Things get a little easier (and a whole lot more fun) once Danny meets Chin and Kono's friend, the one who enjoys leaning against his glass cases despite all of Danny's dire warnings, and starts food fights for no reason whatsoever.

Bakery AU! This is 41,000 words of so much UST and it's pretty much an angst-free zone. Delightful.

it's not what you're sure of (it's what you don't know) (44012 words) by faviconsomehowunbroken
Fandom: Hawaii Five-0 (2010)
Rating: Explicit
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Steve McGarrett/Danny "Danno" Williams, Mary Ann McGarrett/Adam "Toast" Charles
Characters: Steve McGarrett, Danny "Danno" Williams, Chin Ho Kelly, Adam "Toast" Charles, Kono Kalakaua, Mary Ann McGarrett, Kamekona, Mamo
Summary:

Art thief Steve McGarrett and his team come up against FBI Special Agent Danny Williams, and things spin wildly out of control from there.

So well done. Banter, plot, amazing-ness.

Oh, I also watched the Moonlight pilot (no seriously, fuck you Alex O'Loughlin the things I watch for your stupid face) and ... it was pretty bad. Hilariously bad. Their was Evanescence at the end. In something that aired in 2007. Saying that, Alex is perfectly watchable and it also has Jason Dohring and yes, okay I'm probably going to keep watching.

The wind finally died down. OMG no 80km/h gusts slamming the house. Happiness.

Haha. The song iTunes is playing is strangely appropriate.

1. Fringe: Wallflower )

I also saw the promo for what should have been the fall finale, and just, fuck you, Fox. Fuck. You. Now it's January. January.

2. Yuletide sign-up complete. \o/ I was struggling a little for a 4th request but I found one and now I'm pretty excited. The list of fandoms that ended up in my bucket offer was hilarious. To say it was diverse is understating it. My letter will be forth-coming.

3. There exists in the world a photo of Alex O'Loughlin with his tattoos and his scruff and his everything playing an electric guitar. Not helping, Alex. A WORLD of not helping. Ngh. *brain offline*

Included below because of ... reasons )

I need to find August Rush immediately.

4. My laptop scared the hell out of me about 2 hours ago. It beeped and then shut down and then ... nothing. Nothing at all. Cue rending of garments. I finally tried plugging it in without its battery and yes, we have laptop. So it's a battery thing. I'm pretty relieved - although with all things Apple it's not going to be the cheapest thing to replace.

5. I start my new job tomorrow (it's a contract through to the end of March). I was reading up on some things and ahahaha I'm going to be busy and at work far earlier than I am normally. All the coffee. All the coffee. I don't like early morning meetings ... that's going to have to change.

6. Also I just need to say this:

Dear New Zealand,

I hope that the poll showing NZ First closing in on 5% was a grievous statistical error and in no way reflects your current voting intentions.

Did we not learn from last time?! We do not need Winston Peters back in Parliament. *shudders*

Yours in bafflement,

[personal profile] aworldinside

Edit: As [personal profile] china_shop rightly points out in the comments, it would potentially stop National getting an outright majority which is indeed not a bad thing. I just really dislike the idea of Winston in a position with such power all over again, but I guess, democracy can be messy and a proportional voting system is still better than anything else.

1. Fringe: And Those We Leave Behind )

I’ve pretty much made peace with the idea that this might be the last season of Fringe but what Fox are doing by pushing 4.08 out to next year – when it’s really supposed to be the Fall finale – is just full of fail, and doing the show absolutely no favours. This show has a narrative rhythm! It needs favours!

2. Had a veeerry lazy weekend (although there was some AO3 stuff – because yeah, you may have seen) but I did venture out to the Library – avoiding people watching the Santa parade, seriously it’s November – which as it turns out does not hold a copy of The Back-Up Plan. (Not that I was … no, I was looking, he looks so gooood in the pictures I’ve seen). It did however find a copy of The Oyster Farmer. Damn you, O’Loughlin.

3. I also picked up Party Down S1 - Adam Scott and Lizzie Caplan are freakin' delightful.

4. I think The Hunger Games trailer is going to make me finally hunt down the books.

5. I also need to catch up on Homeland, The Good Wife and potentially watch Once Upon A Time. So much TV.

6. This Banana Zucchini Bread/Muffins recipe is goood. I tried it last night. (Dairy free, not gluten free but I think you could easily make it so it is).

Hawaii Five-0: 2x07 )

--

Had a nice weekend full of food (waffles for brunch!) and walks and even some sunshine. Have started my GT presentation and I quite like what I've done, it just needs more work. Fringe in 15 minutes is well, a bit of a challenge. Very excited for the con though. It's going to be awesome. :)

Work is okay. Have started working on a different project, which is nice, as I get to work with new people and learn lots of new things. It's something anyway. ;)
aworldinside: (Alex tattoos)
My day was decidedly blah so I came home, ate junk food and watched Hawaii Five-0.

Which nicely obliged by being full of Alex O'Loughlin being ridiculous and attractive, which is sometimes all I ask of it )

I'm also slowly catching up on Dr Who (still not loving it, but it is good) and The Good Wife (pretty damn awesome).

Other than that, uh NZ won a World Cup (just - oh so just) and the All Blacks were pretty adorable afterwards and I finally have a bed. OMG. Finally.

Hawaii Five-0 2x01 - Ha'i'ole )

In other H50 news, there is this:

Their gag reel is 7.5 minutes long (epic!) and completely and utterly ridiculous. Alex is so the Josh Jackson of this cast too. He's adorable, goofy and a little bit crazy. Seriously, this is amazing. The end!

In life, I am ignoring things, looking at flats (awful) but the job is going okay and I have an interview for a permanent position on Thursday.

I am hyper, and craving sugar. That can't be a good thing.
aworldinside: (Alex tattoos)
So now there's a new H50 sneak-peek (embedded under the cut) and Tumblr isn't respecting Read More cuts, so OMG - spoiler thoughts )

And have a few of pictures of Alex looking awesome at the sunset premiere. Seriously dude, a black suit and shirt? Are you trying to kill me? )

Other than that, I have a job! A temporary job! But it's something and it pays okay. However now I have started flat-hunting and fuck, I did not miss that at all. More rejection. Yay. I did however just answer an ad which mentioned zombie apocalypses, coffee, tofu burgers and Jurassic Park ... amazing.

I admit this week was a whirl of hiding from the snow, (yep more snow) unhealthy food, Hawaii Five-0 fic and lots of pictures of Alex O'Loughlin. But today I did book flights back to Wellington! (Arrive Tues 30 Aug).

My boxes also arrived from the UK. Totally forgotten what I'd packed but it's nice to be reunited with some things like my S1 Fringe DVDs and some things I picked up in Europe. All my stuff is together. Now, just to sort it before I fly out.

As you could possibly tell from the above, Hawaii Five-0 has sort of totally taken over my brain. The last fandom I embraced this quickly on the basis of fic, having seen hardly any episodes, was Torchwood* or maybe SGA - how I fell into the latter's fic hole is sort of fuzzy in my mind. It's a very different experience than when I fell for Fringe, where I watched the source first and where fic is sort of light on the ground. However, it's still the same, enjoyable 'wheee new fandom' rush. Love it.

I did actually watch the H50 pilot on Wednesday though, taking the total episodes I've watched to: 3! Although, thanks to Tumblr, clips on YT, reading recaps and fic, I'm spoiled in a general way for the entirety of S1 anyway.

Pilot thoughts - although given my tendency to ramble it's spoilery for a lot of the Steve plot in S1 )

* In fact I still haven't seen a full season of TW, unless you count Children of Earth and well the less said about that the better as it's one of the reasons I don't read TW fic anymore and couldn't care less about the show. (I'm sorry Peter Capaldi, you were still awesome).

I would watch more but data caps are the devil. I'm seeing what I can get away with, and to be honest, I can see my resolve crumbling.

I'm also waiting for fandom to produce the 'Steve McGarret meets John Sheppard' or 'Steve McGarrett meets Brad Colbert' fics I know it has in it. This is making me realise, that I have a thing for shows with members of the US military.

Two random H50 things:

Vid rec: You, Me and Steve. Hilarious, and so true.

This is a little old now, but I was going through delicious bookmarks and found this post: Top 20 Steve/Danny moments. Just, ridiculous human beings. And this was only up to 1.18!

I should also put together a recs post, but I've been keeping my delicious up to date with fics I've enjoyed.
